We know that feeling connected to a community is highly beneficial, and acts as a significant protective factor for our girls. To this end, during Terms 2 and 3, the Years 7 and 8 students at Lowther Hall have worked together to develop better their understanding of their capacity to ‘shape their world’ as they navigate developing their own community within their section of the School.
Fitting with our motto Non Nobis Solum, we have sought to broaden that understanding as part of a wider Community Connections Program. Research tells us that young people engaged in meaningful service to others are more likely to enjoy positive levels of both mental and emotional wellbeing. Therefore Years 7 and 8 students have been given the opportunity to develop connections through working closely with residents of Benetas Aged Care. The aim of this program is to provide a meaningful and hands on opportunity to show compassion and care which will equip the girls with a level of understanding and empathy for what lies beyond the School gates.
