On Tuesday 25 November students in Year 4 had the opportunity to discuss the tsunami which occurred on Boxing Day 2004 with Ms Trisha Silvers, who shared her experience in surviving that devastating event as part of their unit on Natural Disasters.
Trisha is a remarkable role model for young Australians. She is active in the Reach Foundation, an Australian organisation that supports youth self-esteem. She also is the founder of the Reach Broadbridge Fund. Trisha wrote Beyond the Wave, which tells the story of her life before, during and after the tsunami. She was the 2006 beneficiary of the Young Australian of the Year Award, for her work in Thailand and with Australian youth, and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Melbourne's St Kilda Youth Service.
