In celebration of International Women’s Day I was delighted to be able to join with more than 200 members of the School Community for the annual Lowther Women Lunch on Thursday this week, where past and present students, staff, parents, board members, donors and friends of the School enjoyed a two course meal and a wonderful presentation by a panel of Lowther Women addressing the theme of “Balance for Better”. Hearing from past parent, Captain Ann Cole about her experiences as a pilot and pilot trainer was fascinating, as were the reflections from recent Old Grammarian, Ms Mandy Bo, who spoke about her work in the IT game design field. These panellists were joined by Senior School Head of Science, Ms Catherine Kirby and Year 10 student, Miss Susan Godfrey, both of whom had recently travelled to NASA to participate in a space program familiarisation as well as Reverend Emily Fraser, who helped us to think further about the importance of having female clergy in churches and in schools. It was a most interesting event and inspiring to think about the rewards of entering fields in which women may have been under-represented in the past. Thank you to all who attended – it is gratifying to reflect on the raft of support for our girls with the wonderful women who remain connected to our community.
Other highlights this week have included sharing “House Performing Arts” Day with the Senior School girls on Tuesday and Grandparents and Special Friends’ Day with the Blinkbonnie House and Raymond House girls on Friday. It has been a joyous week!Posted on by Elisabeth Rhodes
