As Term 1 draws to a close, there is a great deal to celebrate. This morning, as I recognised members of the Year 12 cohort who have exhibited consistently excellent effort towards their learning across all of their subjects over the last 10 weeks, I was reflecting on how much new knowledge and how many new skills have been acquired by the girls so far this year. There is such a strong and positive culture of learning at Lowther Hall, with girls often reflecting on what they are working on or speaking about a particular subject or class that they have found interesting. This is not a culture that can be taken for granted and I am grateful to our parents and staff for being such excellent role models for our girls as adults who truly value education.

At the end of Term 1 it is also time to celebrate Easter – an important time of year in our Anglican calendar. For those in the Christian tradition, Easter is a time to reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus – the son of God. I have enjoyed working with my Year 8 Theology class this term to unpack the big ideas of sin, sacrifice and salvation and I hope that they could find plenty of connections to these ideas in the Easter stories shared over the last few weeks. Whatever your faith tradition or position, there are connection points in Easter narrative. Easter reminds us that light can overcome darkness, that ultimately, there is hope and that we have cause to feel optimistic. The symbol of the egg is a powerful reminder of new life and of the idea that we can continue to have a fresh start, even after challenging times. As we head in to the term break, I wish all families a restorative few weeks. If you are celebrating Easter, may you find it a time of rich blessing and reflection and may you truly know the love of God. For all members of our community, stay safe and enjoy the change of pace that the school holidays afford.
