Today we celebrate World Teachers Day – a day to celebrate and recognise the wonderful staff who support our girls to build their knowledge and skills and who help us to create young people who can contribute positively to their communities. This week, with the conclusion of classes for Year 12 students, I have heard a great deal from the Class of 24 about the role their teachers have played in their Lowther Hall journey. They have reflected on the extra encouragement they have received from teachers in difficult times, the lengths a particular teacher has gone to in order to assist a girl to understand a tricky concept, the passion that has been ignited by a teacher in a specific subject and the enormous support they have felt from their teachers as they have approached final assessments.

I am constantly inspired by our teachers – inspired by their dedication to the girls, by their commitment to improving their practice, by their support of one another and by their willingness to do all manner of things, including taking time away from their own families, to enable girls to participate in special events and opportunities. Our teachers are some of the best in the country – they are highly qualified, with many of them holding not only an undergraduate degree in a subject specialty, but an enormous number having undertaken Masters level study and additional certification in areas such as adolescent welfare, instructional coaching or even theology! It is common for our teachers to present at conferences, mentor staff in other schools, provide leadership to less experienced peers, author text books or assess external examinations. I know that all of you within our community who interact with our teachers will have observed first hand their dedication to their students. So, let us celebrate them today and be grateful that we are so blessed to have such a wonderful group of professionals to work with our girls. Happy World Teachers Day!
